This week everyone in Ghana has been talking about one story:
“The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the arrest of the President of the Ghana Football Association over fraud. Kwesi Nyantakyi is believed to be engaged in some influence peddling using the name of the president. The directive follows an investigative piece by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.”

Nothing to see here (except for #InfluencePeddling, which is now my new favourite word), because we eat corruption for breakfast in South Africa.
That is unless you know who Anas Anas is (Thank you, John Derrick. Thank you, Richard. Thank you, Bright.).
You see, Anas Aremeyaw Anas is not just an “ace investigative journalist”. Anas Anas is Ghana’s One-Man-Banksy-Style-Crime-Fighting-Machine.

No one has seen Anas Anas’ face since November 2015. And even then it wasn’t his real face.
This week Anas Anas zoomed in (literally) on Akufo-Addo (who is rumoured to have flown to Brazil with GHC500,000 in a suitcase) over fraud.
There have been many attempts to expose the soccer boss in the past, but no one thought it could be done, as he is legally untouchable (he is very rich) and he is very well-connected (he is ALLEGEDLY* friends with the president. *In case this blog has a wider audience than just my mother).
Enter Anas Anas. And the video he took of 1 x (presidential) hand in 1 x (football) cookie jar.
To quote Anas Anas’:
“As a person, I strongly believe that extreme remedies are the most appropriate for extreme diseases. Not everybody gets happy with what I do. In the face of all the threats and problems, I remain committed. I belong to the remedy.”
I bet you Akufo-Addo did not “get happy” with what Anas Anas did. And neither did a whole lot of other people.
Anas Anas is a busy man. He has exposed numerous corrupt judges. Corrupt immigration. The police. To name a few.
Now, why does this shopping list seem familiar?
Wait…
…I am WhatsApping President Cyril Ramaphosa, as we speak, to ask him to add Anas Aremeyaw Anas to his contacts.
