Ghana Day #49:
Sticking To My Day Job

By 18th June 2018June 20th, 2018Travel

Every couple of days I walk up to my friend David’s fruit stall, at the top of the road, to buy my weekly watermelon. ( See Day#7 )

Or, what started off as my weekly watermelon.

Which then became my weekly watermelon and my weekly bunch of bananas.

Which then became my weekly watermelon, my weekly bunch of bananas and my weekly pineapple.

Which now is my weekly watermelon, my weekly bunch of bananas, my weekly pineapple and my weekly coconut.

And the only reason why it is not my weekly watermelon, my weekly bunch of bananas, my weekly pineapple and my weekly two coconuts is because I can not carry one more thing.

If I could carry anything else I would also get all four of these:

Aren’t they adorable? They live on the corner where I turn to go to David’s Fruit Stall.

Every time I walk back with my weekly watermelon, my weekly bunch of bananas, my weekly pineapple and my weekly coconut they laugh and wave.

Serving suggestions:

(For fruit purchases. Not cute munchkins.)

Watermelon: Put the watermelon slices in the freezer, for a delicious, refreshing watermelon sorbet

Bananas: Two bananas sliced into a bowl of oats with a tablespoon of peanut butter and a pinch of cinnamon. Simple, delicious breakfast!

Coconut: Best snack ever – chilled, chopped up pieces of coconut.
(Ask David to take the outer shell off for you. I thought I would save him time, the last time, thinking I could eat the coconut out of the shell. I ended up catapulting coconut flakes all over the couch.) (Charlie was delighted. See Day#36 )

Pineapple: Chop up, add some coconut and watermelon. Serve chilled.

Yesterday, when I walked up the road, David asked me whether I could please (wo)man his stall, while he went off to get change.

So there I sat, on the wooden bench behind the David’s Fruit Stall, wondering what would happen if someone wanted to buy anything other than a watermelon, a bunch of bananas, a pineapple and a coconut. Because these were the only prices I knew.

By the time David got back, I had not sold one banana.

One gentleman did ask whether I wanted a banana. But I am not entirely sure he meant the fruit variety.

Turns out, David did not only go to find change. He also went to get changed.

He and his wife were off to church.

Don’t they look beautiful?
